Do these in order. Lead with people and utilities — not a chainsaw.

• Move everyone — people and pets — well beyond the tree's branch spread and likely fall path.
• If any limb is touching a power line, assume it is energized. Call your utility first; a line can stay live even when your power is out.
• Do not climb, cut, pull, or drive under a storm-damaged tree. It can be under tension long after the wind stops.
• From a safe distance, photograph the whole tree, the failure point, and any damage to the roof, fence, or vehicles.
• Note the date and time of the event and keep receipts for any emergency work or temporary protection.
• Add temporary protection (like a tarp over an opening) only if you can do it without entering the danger zone.

Capture this before any cleanup, from a safe distance. Good documentation is often the difference between a smooth claim and a stalled one.

• Wide photos of the whole tree and where it failed, then close-ups of the damage.
• Photos of every affected structure or item: roof, fence, deck, vehicle, outbuilding.
• The date and time of the storm or failure.
• Whether the tree was on your property, near a right-of-way, or from a neighbor's yard.
• Any receipts for tarps, board-up, or emergency service.
• A written, line-item estimate from your tree service (we provide this).

The more we know up front, the faster and safer we can plan the removal.

• Your address and the fastest way onto the property (gate width, driveway, overhead clearance).
• What the tree is on or threatening — roof, car, power line, driveway, neighbor's property.
• Whether anyone is hurt or trapped (call 911 first for injuries).
• Whether a utility line is involved (we coordinate with the utility before anyone approaches).
• Photos, if it's safe to take them.
